Description

● With the Issai kiwi, you can grow and harvest fruit that has 16 times more vitamin C than oranges, in USDA zones 3 through 9. Harvest season is August through September, producing as much as 100 pounds of grape-sized kiwi fruit at maturity. Kiwi vines are low maintenance, pest resistant, drought resistant, and disease resistant, a perfect plant for the apocalypse. You will not need a male and a female kiwi plant to produce fruit, as the Issai Kiwi is self-fertile. A trellis, fence, or some kind of structural support will be needed to uphold the vine and help keep the fruit off the ground. Issai kiwi vines prefer full sun but will tolerate partial shade and will grow in a wide variety of soils, though they have a preference for sandy loam soils. The foliage is quite unique, green with slashes of pink variegation, and can be used to help conceal or hide items from plain sight.
  • The Issai kiwi is native to China and has long been used to help promote health because of its medical properties. The fruit is used to nourish and strengthen the body and to support the health of the immune system. The ripe fruit is sweet and high in vitamin C and can be used to treat vitamin C deficiency, taken in daily doses of 9 to 15 grams a day.

  • Deer love to eat the ripe fruit that falls to the ground; but because deer will eat only the fruit and not the foliage, the Issai kiwi also provides a great soft-mast food plot for attracting deer to your property. You can expect deer to graze upon the fruit in August through September, making this a great additional late summer food source for deer.
