● Needle palm trees are a cold-hardy and can grow in USDA zones 6 through 10, as well zone 5 with slight protection. It can take temperatures of -0 ℉ without protection, but to protect and insulate the tree for when the temperature falls further, wrap the trunk and crown with burlap or a bed sheet. The needle palm is documented to grow as far north as New York City, and the site location for planting can be just about anywhere, as it is an extremely versatile palm plant, growing in full shade and full sun, and in wet and dry locations. The leaf is evergreen, and grows to a height of four to seven feet at maturity, with a spread of four to eight feet.
